What made 2024 different

If 2023 was the year of the big swing (Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, the late-arriving wave of pandemic-paused projects), 2024 was the year filmmakers used the weight of those swings to do something stranger. The Substance turned body horror into a treatise on fame. Dune: Part Two proved a sequel could be the better film without trading its strangeness for accessibility. And Anatomy of a Fall — released wide in early 2024 — quietly became the year's most rewatched courtroom drama for people who normally avoid them.

How we chose

Three rules. The film had to be: (1) released or widely available on streaming during 2023–2024, (2) something at least one of us has rewatched on purpose, and (3) not on the list because everyone else put it on theirs.

Where to find them

Most are split between Max, Hulu and Prime Video, with the late-2024 indie releases (The Substance, Poor Things) bouncing between Mubi and Disney-adjacent services. Use the main discovery page to filter by what you already pay for.
